Highlights of the latest Ogden School District Board of Education regular session meeting.

Ben Lomond visual arts teacher delivered a presentation about summer enrichment programs for students including photography and jewelry-making.

Student board of education representative Aleksah Mendez from Ogden High school delivered a presentation about the fall activities at the school. This included academics, clubs and athletics.

The Policy and Law Committee recommended the following revisions:

● 3.111 Financial Reserves/Fund Balances
○ Add references within policy.

● 7.600 Equal Opportunity Employment
○ Add protected classes, sexual orientation or gender identity, per Utah Code 43A-5-106
○ Add initial Board approval date to the policy, April 23, 2008, previously numbered 6.1.2.
■ When the policy was renumbered and moved to section 7 Human Resources, the initial Board approval date was left off of the policy.

● 9.100 School Year
○ Add clarity for the 180 day instructional day requirement
○ Add the expectation for make up days for bad weather/canceled instructional day
○ Add the allowed days for Parent Teacher Conferences, up to three days
○ Update language in procedure to current operations (i.e., change trimester to semester)

● 9.412 Emergency Disaster
○ Remove legal reference, state code, that doesn’t apply

● 9.416 Wellness
○ Revisions include adding mental health to the policy and procedure for mental health and healthy lifestyles.
○ Additional procedure revisions per the references within the policy.
○ Add assessment measures aligned with the additions of mental health and healthy lifestyles.
○ Include tri-annual assessment per USDA Food and Nutrition Service, Local School Wellness Policy requirement

The Policy and Law Committee reviewed the following policies and procedures:

● 2.104 Administrative Organization Plan
○ Reviewed, no revisions recommended.
○ The previous review was August 2016.

● 8.101 School Credits and Graduation
○ Procedure revision awareness:
■ Updated the number of credits required to graduate within the paragraphs to match the tables within procedure that outline the graduation requirements.
■ The number of credits required to graduate did not change, there were revisions missed in the previous adjustment.
■ Add the ability for students to request the basic diploma from the traditional high schools.
■ Previously the basic diploma was only allowed at alternative high schools. If a student wants the basic diploma, there is an application process, and the student will not be able to participate in the traditional high school graduation.
■ Updated the math course language.
■ Removed the Civics exam requirement.

● 11.102 Employee Non-Disclosure Assurances
○ Review, no revisions recommended. The USBE data privacy audit team reviewed section 11 policies in March 2025, and made no recommendations to revise this policy.
○ The previous approval was November 2017.
